A Simmer pot that will make your home smell Spring-fresh!
This week we're putting a Spring-fresh spin on a winter classic. A simple simmer pot is an easy way to get in the spirit of Springtime. The key to a seasonal simmer pot is changing up your ingredients with the times. Where in Fall and Winter, we'd typically use spices and herbs such as cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. And fruit and berries like orange slices or cranberries. A Spring simmer pot trades the oranges for limes and the clove for mint.
The Scent of Spring
Creating a Spring simmer pot that refreshes the air throughout your house only takes about 10 minutes to put together. And if you're not a fan of citrus fruits, no problem. The simmer pot herbs and spices are interchangeable. Maybe try apple slices or sliced cherries instead.
Ingredients
2 Limes sliced thinly
1 Bunch of fresh mint
4 sprigs of Thyme
1 tsp of vanilla extract
Directions
Boil 2 quarts of water in a large cooking pot.
Once you've reached a roiling boil, lower the temperature to medium-low heat.
Add your collected ingredients to the pot, and do not cover.
Enjoy the fresh scents of Spring and Summer all day long!
Tea Time
If you're not a fan of vanilla that's not a problem at all. The simmer pot herbs and spices are interchangeable. Maybe try some lavender extract instead. Want your Spring simmer pot to be extra floral? Add rose petals and skip the vanilla extract altogether. The combination possibilities are endless!
